Wonewoc-Center May School Board Meeting Held Election of Officers
The Wonewoc-Center School Board tackled a long agenda for the May Board Meeting. The meeting started off with election of officers. The 2017-2018 officers are: President, Duane Tracey; Vice-President, Cory Wohlrab; Clerk, Nancy Dieck; and Treasurer, Melanie Benson. The board also voted to make Farmers State Bank their depository, The Juneau County Messenger the Official Publication. The Wonewoc-Center Board Meetings will continue to be held the 3rd Monday of the month, starting at 6:00 p.m. and will be located in Room 242 at the high school. Each board member selected 3 committees to serve on. The committees are: Personnel, Curriculum/Instruction, Policy, Building/Grounds/Transportation/Food Service, Athletics, Finance, Technology, and Strategic Planning Committee.
The administrative team gave their reports;
Michelle Noll, MS/HS principal, reported that she had worked with Gundersen Hospital to write a grant for supplies and remodeling for the Health Academy. She informed the board that all the summer rec positions have been hired for summer school. In addition she has started a Chess Club for elementary students. She along with several other employees had attended the Skyward Training in the Dells. Dr. Sharon Ennis, District Administrator, reported that she had completed the CLC Grant which will fund the 4th year of our BASE (Before and After School Education) Program. Fine Arts night was a big hit with the Live Auction and Silent Auction brining in over $3000.00. The district has secured a Speech Therapist for next year. She will be in district 3 days/week, and is being hired through CESA 5. The last 3 days of in-service will be used to develop curriculum. Dr. Ennis also announced that there are a number of changes to the Title I, Title II and Title III application process, and that she along with Sally Thompson will be working on making those changes. Six students from the district took part in the ACCESS exam (English Language Learners) all six scored at a 5 or below. The district will need to investigate programs for these students. Other things going on in the district a) The Tech and Health Academy are both moving forward; b) Band had an excellent concert, c) the district has found a partner to assist in the building and providing of necessary equipment for the Tech Lab.
It was a busy night for Action Items. The Wonewoc-Center School Board approved the CESA 5 Contract for a total of $109,959.00. They also approved accepting 18 non-resident students into the district for open-enrollment and approved 9 students out of the district to attend other schools. They denied 1 student open enrollment out. The board approved the teaching staff, assignments, and pay scale for next year’s teaching staff. The board approved a 2% raise for all Support Staff.
Delta Dental Insurance was approved for employees of the district with a small change to coverage. Which will result in a 2% increase in premium. Employees will continue to be provided with WEA Insurance for the following school year. There will be a 4.7% increase, with some modifications to the present plan.
The following coaches were approved Head Girls’ Basketball-Rick Field, JV Girls’ Basketball Coach-Kelly Nielson, Head Boys’ Basketball Coach-Tory Needham, JV Boys’ Basketball Coach-Brandon Seely. The district has seen an increase in the number of girl’s interested in volleyball so Kelly Nielsen will be coaching the C-squad Volleyball Team. Tammi Scrabel was approved as the Cheerleading Coach. Tory Needham was approved as the Athletic Director for next school year. Jackie Miller FFA Contract was approved for middle and high school.
The district is in compliance with the DPI lunch charges, so school lunch prices will remain the same for next school year. Elementary Lunch will be $2.40 and middle and high school lunch will be $2.65. Breakfast is free to all students at this time.
Mrs. Stephanie Baker was present at the board meeting to discuss the possibility of the district supporting a trip for students in grades 5-8 to Washington DC next school year. Mrs. Baker had been part of the planning process in her previous district and felt it would be a great opportunity for our students. The board approved the trip.
In another action item the proposed calendar had teacher in-service day starting on August 22, 2017. It was requested that the first in-service day be on August 23, 2017. This will allow the vocational teachers and administrative team to attend the ACP (Academic and Career Planning) Conference in Madison. Back-to-School night will be Thursday, August 24, 2017.

The last item on the agenda was the approval of Marie Vitcenda as the School Psychologist for the 2017-2018 school year.
