Hustlerfest - big things happening in a small town

by Julie Mecikalski

Hustlerfest is fast approaching and is scheduled for August 25-27 in Hustler. The highlight event this is year is the Mini Rods. “They are the fastest ride on two-wheels and will go down the track about 35 miles per hours. The Mini Rods are a family-friendly sport as they will let the kids in the pits to see the tractors and have their pictures taken with them,” stated Donna Bradley, Hustlerfest committee member of the Hustler Booster Club. The event will start on Friday, August 25, at 7 pm. Also new this year is a motorcycle ride that will leave the Hustler Exhibit hall on Saturday, August 26, at 8:30 am. Signup is at 8 am. “It will be a nice ride through Juneau and surrounding counties and will be end at Hustler about 11:45 - just in time to follow the parade through town. The money raised for this event will go towards a local food pantry,” said Bradley. Cars are welcomed to follow, too. Rain or shine, this event will still happen as the ride is for a good cause.

Another family-friendly event includes operating remote-controlled vehicles. Bradley noted, “We are making a small dirt track for people to bring in their remote-control cars and

trucks to play in.”

Denim and Leather is the rock band scheduled to perform Saturday night. The band plays mostly music from the ‘80s. “If you don’t like rock music, they are a fun band to watch as

they put on an awesome show,” explained Bradley. There will still be the usual attractions such as the Hustlerfest Parade on Saturday at 11:30 with Bingo to follow as well as the Pie Eating and Whistle Blowing, Nail Driving, Bale Throwing, and Backseat Driver Contests. On Sunday, the Chicken Dinner will run 11 am-2:30 pm with the big tractor pull - which will include pulling semis this year - starting at 11 am.

“Historical Hustlerfests” and “Historical People of Hustler” are featured this year in the Hustler Museum. Recently received was a desk from the Tunnel School and is on display along with a piece of slate blackboard from The Little Red School and Orange Mills School. Museum hours are Friday 6-8PM, Sat. 10AM-6PM, and Sun. 10AM-4PM.
