Two injured in 2-vehicle accident in Vernon County

Vernon County Sheriff John B. Spears reports on September 8th at 3:03 pm, Vernon County Dispatch Center received multiple 911 calls of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of US Highway 14 and Cut-A-Cross Rd in the town of Coon. A vehicle driven by 17-year-old Heaven M Saunders from Chaseburg was traveling south on Cut-A-Cross Rd. Saunders turned west onto US Highway 14 into the path of an eastbound pickup truck pulling a 34-foot gooseneck horse trailer, driven by 54-year-old Paul H. Dietz from Faribault, MN. Dietz attempted to avoid colliding with Saunder’s vehicle but struck the rear drivers side of Saunders’ vehicle. Dietz’s truck and trailer jack-knifed and traveled into the westbound ditch, causing the truck to overturn and come detached from the trailer. The trailer also overturned onto its side. Saunders was transported to Gundersen Health Systems in Lacrosse with non-life threatening injuries by Tri-State Ambulance. A passenger in the Saunders vehicle, 17-year-old Dylan J Harnish was not injured. Paul Dietz was not injured, however, a passenger in his vehicle, 54-year-old Linda Novak-Dietz was transported to Vernon Memorial Healthcare by Tri-State Ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Coon Valley Fire and EMS, Westby Fire and EMS, Westby Police Department, and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office
