Art Shrader to Run for 50th Assembly District
On Monday, Art Shrader announced his candidacy for the 50th Assembly District. Shrader, a Democrat, works as a local community banker in Reedsburg and has spent his career helping our local small businesses grow and create jobs. In 2016, Shrader ran against five-term incumbent Rep. Ed Brooks (R-Reedsburg) who has not yet announced his plans for the fall.
“My parents taught me that through hard work and determination we could achieve our goals. I was raised to believe that in this country everyone has the opportunity to succeed. In our rural community and across Wisconsin, the promise of opportunity for all is fading. Grit, perseverance and doing the right things aren’t enough anymore. While we were all working, they changed the rules of the game. I’m running for State Assembly because I believe by working together we can give every Wisconsinite the opportunity to succeed,” Shrader said.
At his announcement Monday at the Reedsburg Library, Shrader was joined by Congressman Mark Pocan along with dozens of local supporters from Sauk, Richland and Juneau Counties. Shrader pledged to strengthen our workforce by increasing support for our local public schools, bringing high-speed internet to every rural community in Wisconsin, and working across the aisle to create jobs and end the influence of money in politics.
“Our schools are struggling, our roads are falling apart and too many families can’t make a go of it because the deck is stacked against them. I will work for the people, not for the party, not for the powerful and not for any personal gain. It’s time we return to commonsense, balance and working together to get things done,” Shrader concluded.
Art and his wife of 24 years, Mindy, live in rural Reedsburg and have two children, Dakota and Miranda. After serving overseas as a Marine in Operation Desert Storm, Art attended UW-Richland County and graduated from both Winona State University and UW-Madison Graduate School of Banking. Art works at WCCU Credit Union as a Business Loan Officer. He is a member of VFW Post 1916, the Eagles Nest Detachment of the Marine Corps League and previously was a member of the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Sauk County Chamber of Commerce, Sauk County Economic Development Corporation Board, Baraboo Revitalization Committee, Reedsburg Outdoor Club and the Reedsburg Homeless Shelter Board.
