Accident -Driver lost control of vehicle causing 3-hour shut down of Hwy 56

Vernon County Sheriff John B. Spears reports a single vehicle crash that occurred on State Highway 56 at the intersection of Engh Lane in the town of Jefferson.

On April 14th, 2018 at approximately 4:10 AM Casanova Coy, age 16 of Avoca, WI was traveling Westbound on State Highway 56 when he lost control of his vehicle around a corner near the intersection of Engh Lane causing the vehicle to go off the roadway striking a telephone pole.

State Highway 56 was shut down for approximately 3 hours due to powerlines laying down across the highway. At the time of the crash Coy was wearing his seatbelt. The drivers’ side and passenger side airbags deployed. Coy did not sustain any injuries due to the crash.

Assisting the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office at the scene was the Viroqua Fire Department.

The incident remains under investigation by the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office.
