Vernon County 911 Dispatch Center received a 911 at 8:24 am, call reporting the crash. A 2012 Ford F-150 being driven by 88-year-old Charles L. Rushman from rural Lafarge, was stopped at a stop sign on County Road P. A 1999 Ford F550 Agricultural Sprayer truck, owned by Jarred Huber and driven by 27-year-old Brody S. Rudrud from rural Viroqua, was traveling north on Highway 27. Rudrud was pulling a flatbed trailer loaded with spray chemicals. Rushman pulled out into the intersection and did not see the Rudrud vehicle. Rudrud swerved into the southbound lane attempting to avoid the collision, however, Rushman’s vehicle struck the side of Rudruds truck, causing it to spin out of control and overturn. Both Rushmans were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries. Rudrud received some minor injuries but declined medical treatment or transport. There was a very small amount of an identified chemical that leaked from one of the containers on the trailer. Vernon County Emergency Management Director Brandon Larson was on scene and monitored the leakage.

State Highway 27 was limited to one-lane of travel for about two hours to clean up debris and remove the vehicles. Assisting at the scene was Westby Fire, Westby 1st Responders, Westby Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Gundersen Tri-State Ambulance, and Vernon County Emergency Management.
